A Shot at nighttime (1964) was based mostly upon a stage play that initially did not involve the Clouseau character. In this movie, Sellers began to develop the exaggerated French accent that later became an indicator with the character. The movie also introduces two on the series' regular people: his outstanding, Commissioner Dreyfus (Herbert Lom)
